Looking for immersive art experiences in London this summer? FRAMELESS, the UK’s largest permanent immersive art experience, is excited to launch a brand-new artist residency: Bodies Unbound. Created in collaboration with the Royal College of Art (RCA), this three-part audio-visual experience explores the body as a language of identity, resistance, and expression.
Available from 3 July 2025 in our Blank Canvas Gallery, this limited time experience invites you to explore movement as a powerful form of visual storytelling, all within our one-of-a-kind multi-sensory Galleries.
Opening Night: Systems Unbound at FRAMELESS
Kicking off the exciting collaboration, FRAMELESS hosted the exclusive preview event on 2 July 2025: Systems Unbound, part of the RCA’s Festival of Communication. The one-night-only event celebrated the next generation of digital artists and offered a first look at Bodies Unbound, full access to the FRAMELESS immersive Galleries, a live DJ set and a complimentary Wonderland Cocktail on entry.
For those that missed the Systems Unbound event, you can still experience Bodies Unbound after-dark at FRAMELESS Lates, every Friday and Saturday night, an evening event in London that goes beyond the ordinary combining art, music, and atmosphere in an unforgettable night out.
The Artists Behind Bodies Unbound
This residency showcases the work of four digital artists from the RCA’s acclaimed Digital Direction MA course:
- Sai Ma
- Kashish Gakhar & Alexis Obue
- Yuchen Li
Their work explores how movement becomes a language, highlighting personal identity, cultural resistance, and emotional transformation.
What You’ll See in the Residency
The Pulse Within by Sai Ma
This piece follows Shirley Elle, a key figure in Voguing Shanghai, blending live-action and digital dance to explore queer identity, joy, and defiance in modern China. Expect a bold, beautiful expression of cultural memory and freedom.
Rebuild Ruins – Escape by Yuchen Li
Filmed in stark, post-urban spaces, this installation uses spontaneous dance to explore the experience of freedom without words. The body becomes a medium for truth, healing, and reclaiming space.
The Veil by Kashish Gakhar & Alexis Obue
Combining classical Kathak and heels dance, this powerful piece examines how shame is carried and released through the body. Digital projections and movement weave a narrative of identity, agency, and resilience.
